This generating station is the smallest and newest of Orillia Power’s facilities. As a result of the ever increasing demand for additional supplies of electricity in the late 1940’s, this plant was commissioned in 1950. It has the capacity to produce 3,000 kilowatts of environmentally friendly electricity.

Swift Rapids Generating Station, located at Lock 43 on the Trent Severn Waterway is the oldest and largest of Orillia Power Corporations’ generating stations.
Construction began in 1913 and the first power was transmitted in November of 1917. With full load water flows, this plant is able to produce 8,000 kilowatts of electricity.
Over the years, numerous upgrades have been performed on this plant to preserve its integrity and keep the current flowing. |

Minden Generating Station located at Workman’s Falls on the Gull River at Minden.
Work began in September of 1934 to construct Orillia’s second hydro electric power plant. Men were employed who qualified under the Unemployment Relief Work Act – this being in the depth of the great depression.
On August 21, 1935, the first current reached Orillia from this plant. At full load water flows, this plant has the capacity to produce 4,000 kilowatts of environmentally friendly electricity. |
