Effective November 1, 2019, certain changes were introduced to electricity bills as a result of regulatory amendments to O.Reg 363/16 and O.Reg 364/16 made under the Ontario Rebate for Electricity Consumers Act, 2016. In particular, the Ontario government’s new Ontario Electricity Rebate (OER) came into force as a new on-bill line item.
The OER replaces the former 8% Provincial Rebate as well as the rate reduction previously provided through Global Adjustment (GA) Refinancing on the electricity line. As a result of the replacement, consumers will see the electricity line on their bill rise. The new OER will compensate for that rise, and the average residential bill will rise in line with the rate of inflation.
